New Champions Crowned On WWE Raw (WWE News)
AJ Styles might've just won his last piece of WWE gold on Monday's Raw.
AJ Styles and Dragon Lee combined to win the World Tag-Team Titles from Judgment Day duo Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh on Monday's action packed episode of Raw. Earlier, Triple H had posted on socials that Raw was title match heavy, and WWE kicked off the night with a big time championship switch.
The combo of Styles and Lee is pretty fresh. They haven't actually wrestled that many matches as a tandem, but they're the new tag champs regardless. Closing the bout, AJ hit his Styles Clash finisher on Bálor to score the win and seize the belts. Then, he and Dragon celebrated mid-ring and announcers pondered what the future would hold for them as a double act.
It might not be a long love affair, because Styles is set to retire at some unknown point in 2026.
This win marks Lee's very first tag title win in WWE. Meanwhile, AJ can look back on his time as champs alongside towering giant Omos in 2021. That feels like a lifetime ago at this point - since then, Omos has gone off to win tag gold in Japan alongside UK indy favourite Jack Morris.
Omos and Morris could be considered a less likely pairing than AJ and Dragon, but this victory will taste sweet for the veteran Styles. It stops Judgment Day's reign short at 112 days. Throughout, Bálor and McDonagh had received some backlash from fans for failing to really defend the straps regularly. The blame for that falls on WWE creative more than anything though.
This Could Be AJ's Last WWE Title
Styles has announced that he'll retire from the ring at some point in 2026, so he doesn't have an awful lot of time left as an active member of the WWE roster. The wrestling community at large was still applauding his sparkling 'greatest hits' package opposite John Cena over in Australia at Crown Jewel on 11 October when this title change happened on Raw.
Following his win there, Cena raised AJ's hand high in the air and showed ultimate respect to one of his greatest foes. It was a lovely moment, one of the best from John's up and down retirement tour. Now, Styles himself looks likely to embark on a retirement jaunt that'll include some tag title defences alongside Dragon Lee and hopefully at least one more match under the TNA banner.
In theory, this could well be the last piece of gold AJ wins as an active wrestler. It's almost definitely his final WWE championship, so people should enjoy this run with Lee for what it is.
