The Elite vs. The New Day ALMOST Happened 8 Years Ago (WWE News)

The Young Bucks called Triple H and tried to make an inter-promotional dream match happen.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. New Day trio Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods almost happened way back in 2018, but WWE's Triple H was unable to make it happen in the end. That's the story Matt Jackson told fans tuning into 'Being The Elite' - he, Kenny and his brother Nick badly wanted to explore a trios bout vs. New Day.

Of course, AEW hadn't been established in 2018. That wouldn't happen until the following year, which means The Bucks and Omega were still plying their trade in groups like New Japan, Ring Of Honor and on the independent scene. To them, getting to work with good pals like E, Kofi and Xavier would've been a hoot.

Now, in the wake of Kingston and Woods leaving WWE (amidst chatter of being offered pay cuts), there's at least a decent chance some sort of showdown could happen with The Elite. Kofi and Xavier would have to go it alone against Omega and The Bucks though, because their longtime partner Big E will remain on WWE's side as a PLE pre-show pundit.

He officially announced his retirement from in-ring action after battling against a serious neck injury suffered back in 2022 for years. So, the planned 6-man from 2018 is impossible, but Kingston and Woods vs. The Bucks would appeal to All Elite's audience.

Matt said that Hunter was interested in the match back then, but he believes 'The Game' was more motivated to sign them up to full-time contracts. That didn't happen, neither did the match, then AEW formed under Tony Khan's watch and the rest is history.

Again, a retooled bout is possible 8 years on in 2026.
