WWE WrestleMania 42: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True

4. Cody Rhodes Gets Booed Hard

The Rock's face was a picture when fans started to turn against him and cheer for Hollywood Hogan back during their 'Icon vs. Icon' special at WrestleMania X8. Smartly, and knowing he'd never be able to fight against that kind of backlash, Rocky leaned into it and both he and Hogan switched roles. That was the right thing to do, because nostalgia for Hulkamania was king in 2002.

There's a real concern here that Cody Rhodes wouldn't lean into any booing at 'Mania 42. His suck up promo from a recent SmackDown, where he called fans “family”, suggests that WWE want Rhodes to persist with his heroic character no matter what. It’d be hellish if he was completely booed out of the building vs. Randy Orton from first bell to last.

Some “Cody Sucks” chants would be undeserved but aren't impossible.

Rhodes is a great babyface, but fans are growing tired of his act and it feels like it needs a breather. The reigning WWE Champion has done incredibly well to last as long as he has as a traditional baby in the modern era, and he should get plaudits for doing so. Nothing lasts forever though. That's just the way it is.

Agents will be banking on Pat McAfee's involvement alongside Randy to bring the heat for Orton. He'll likely be cheered regardless of what McAfee is getting up to around ringside. Further, select fans agree with some of the things Pat has been saying, and they've sniffed out Cody's disinterest in the story.

Ready to read how things could get even worse? You got it.
