WWE Wrestlepalooza 2025: 8 Nightmares That Could Come True

6. Randy Orton Costs Cody Rhodes

This writer personally wouldn’t be mad at Drew McIntyre becoming WWE Champ again, especially as a heel, but the circumstances would need to be bang on. Enter this daring thought! It'd be rather out of the blue if Randy Orton dropped Cody Rhodes with an RKO and effectively cost him his second WWE Title reign. That wouldn’t make much sense right now, but it's always a possibility.

It does feel like the window passed on that when Orton didn’t get mad at Cody’s shenanigans during their King Of The Ring final at Night Of Champions in June. Back then, Rhodes capitalised on Randy's own shady turnbuckle bid to win the crown and thus plough on to SummerSlam for another crack at John Cena. That came up in promos afterwards, but the pair remained friends.

"Until now." Cue dramatic movie trailer style voice over guy to read that bit.

Honestly? Randy smacking Cody with his RKO would be a shock for the sake of it and nothing more. The move would be newsworthy, sure, but why would Orton help Drew? They've got their own beef, and that even climaxed recently with a tag match (that involved Jelly Roll and Logan Paul) at SummerSlam and then a one-on-one during the 12 September SmackDown.

There's no way Orton turns on Cody without it directly benefitting him, right? WWE must know they can keep that plot point in their back pockets rather than shoehorning it in just to give Wrestlepalooza some more sizzle. This PLE definitely won't need it - just look at the star power on offer.

If Randy is ever going to punt Rhodes in the skull, then make it a standalone moment.
