3. Penta Finally Secures Championship Gold

WWE

Ever since debuting in WWE 14 months ago, Penta has been one of the most popular superstars on Raw and has seemed on the cusp of breaking through with a title win.

That moment came Monday night, when Penta defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship. The match started a bit slowly, but it ramped up after a commercial break (both the action and the crowd investment), with both men trading offense and surviving each one’s best shots.

After Dirty Dom kicked out of a Penta Driver, El Zero Miedo became frustrated and posted himself on a blind charge. This was Mysterio’s cue to ask JD McDonagh for the ring bell hammer. However, Finn Balor stopped JD, saying Dom needed to do this on his own.

Then the Danhausen curse came to fruition, with Dominik missing a 619 and Penta hitting him with a Mexican Destroyer for the win and the title.

The match itself was a bit sloppy at times, but the fans were way into it for most of the second half, and the outcome was a really good moment that also paid off Mysterio’s encounter with Danhausen backstage.
