10 Comic Book Tie-Ins That Made Great Movies Better

9. Serenity

Die Hard Year One
Dark Horse Comics

By this time, does anyone need to be told what Firefly is? The show itself is a space-western focusing on the ragtag crew of the Firefly-class ship, Serenity, as they go through the grand frontiers of space. It was, and still is, a fantastic show that is the definition of a show raised from the dead by fans. Their outcry lead to a movie named Serenity, to give a final hurrah.

There are couple Firefly-based comics out, but the one that really adds an umph to the movie is Serenity: Those Left Behind, the first three issues of the Serenity comic series from Dark Horse Comics. The comic is set between the end of the television show and the start of the film.

The story itself is a fantastic bridging point for fans, explaining where the crew is, and giving the reason why some main characters are not there or ready to leave. This boosts the already superb Serenity with the backstory needed to tie up the threads.
