3 Ways Death Of Wolverine Delivered (And 3 Ways It Didn't)

Did Marvel craft a satisfying demise for the ol' Canucklehead? Yes and no.

Death Of Wolverine, a four issue mini-series by the creative team of writer Charles Soule (Superman/Wonder Woman) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War) recently wrapped up, leaving fans eager to discuss the events of the story. Obviously, considering the title of the series is Death Of Wolverine, it's no spoiler to reveal that Logan does, indeed, meet his end. Therefore, given that fans already knew the conclusion, the focus was directed more towards the journey. What set of circumstances could bring down Logan, that most ever-lasting of characters, a semi-immortal badass with a healing factor, devastating fighting skills and razor-sharp claws? Now, as fans, we all know the nature of death in comic books. Namely, it's pretty much always temporary. There is just no way that Marvel would ever let a cash-cow like Wolverine go away forever, as it simply wouldn't make sense from a business standpoint. What does make sense, however, is hyping a mini-series about his death (for now), as that will sell a huge amount of comic books. Therefore, the fleeting nature of Logan's death is not on the chopping block in this article. It's just the way it is in comics, and we accept that. This article will instead detail our reaction to the story that Soule told, which has left us with as many gripes as compliments. Wolverine is one of the most popular and enduring comic book characters ever created, so any story purporting to be his final one was always going to be held to a very high standard. Does it stand up to such scrutiny? Read on to find out. SOME SPOILERS AHEAD
