Tumblr Mw9x4twvcj1rwkivmo1 500 What if you were just an ordinary dude whose life sucked one day and then the next everyone suddenly thinks you're as cool as an X-Man? In Greg's world, superheroes are celebrities - first they get the powers, then they get the girls, the access and the fame. Greg, our little friend (or average-height as he points out) is a non-powered nobody, who strikes out on his date with a gorgeous gal after a superhero appropriates her for his entourage, leaving him a stranded dateless wonder. After walking home (his date took his car keys), he rushes off to return some video games before midnight to avoid the late fees, manages to bumble his way in, and then, to make the night perfect, he becomes victim to a robbery! Despite getting shot in the chest, he miraculously survives, and the security footage of the shooting is broadcast on the news the next day. Suddenly Greg is presented to the world as a closet mutant with the power of bullet-resistant skin and joins the ranks of celebrated superheroes! How does an ordinary person keep up the charade of being a superhero? is a great premise for a series and writer Jeff Kline does a tremendous job with it in Indestructible #1. Kline sets up all the beats perfectly so that it never once feels derivative or forced. The story flows naturally with a believable cast of characters so that even the idea of a world with real superheroes in seems plausible. First issues are tough to get right but the creative team behind Indestructible #1 manages to effortlessly create the world of the story and introduce it's main characters while also setting up the series plot and a larger story arc, all in the space of a single comic! Throw in Javi Garron and Salvia Garcia's outstanding pencils and inks and you've got a blindingly good first issue. The cover too is especially brilliant with Greg being "shot" by cameras. Who knew there was another angle to explore in the superhero genre? Featuring original, clever comics storytelling and a great hook, Indestructible #1 is well worth picking up.
