4 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (18 December)

Your weekly guide to the best in comics.

Harley In comics news this week, Matt Fraction, one of Marvel's brightest stars and writer of the award-winning Hawkeye, has been replaced by Charles Soule as the writer of the upcoming new Marvel series, Inhuman, though Joe Madureira remains the series artist. No reasons were given for the switch nor for pushing back the release date from January to April. Inhuman spins off of the Marvel Event Infinity where thousands of new Inhumans appeared after Black Bolt exploded a Terrigen Bomb, with the series looking at the changed lives of the newly transformed Inhumans. Soule is a prolific comics writer, currently helming Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing and Red Lanterns for DC, Letter 44 for Oni, and Thunderbolts for Marvel along with the new She-Hulk series set to debut in February. DC are going to end two of their original New 52 line-up titles, Animal Man and The Dark Knight, early next year. Jeff Lemire, writer of Animal Man, announced that his series will be drawing to a close in March with Animal Man #29, though fans of Buddy Baker can expect to see him in Lemire's new series, Justice League of Canada, out later in the year. Gregg Hurwitz, writer of The Dark Knight, also announced his series will be coming to an end in March with The Dark Knight #29, despite the title's strong sales. It's consistently in the Top 40 bestselling titles each month though it is the least popular out of all the Batman titles DC are currently publishing. With another DC title, the popular all-ages comic, Li'l Gotham, ending this month, DC readers have to be asking the same question that is Image's current marketing slogan (albeit in a completely different context!): Who's Next? Marvel's new OGN (Original Graphic Novel) line continues next year with the release of X-Men: No More Humans by Mike Carey and Salvador Larroca. The story will be set in a post-Battle of the Atom world, where the entire human population, including the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, have suddenly disappeared. The cast will feature young Jean Grey, Beast, Wolverine, Magneto, Storm, Emma Frost, and young and older Cyclops. The OGN line of standalone books has so far released Avengers: Endless Wartime by Warren Ellis and Mike McKone and has Spider-Man: Family Business by Mark Waid, James Robinson and Gabriele Dell'Otto set for release in April 2014, with X-Men: No More Humans due in May 2014. The release date will coincide with the new X-Men movie, Days of Future Past, also out in May. That's the comics news of the week, and even if Shia LaBeouf doesn't believe in giving credit where it's due, we sure do, so let's take a look at the awesome releases from the best writers and artists out this week!
