5 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (27 November)

5. Scooby-Doo Team-Up #1 by Sholly Fisch and Dario Brizuela (DC)

Sdomeets Cv1 Poyd9a6pqi DC's digital division strikes gold again with their latest offering, Scooby-Doo Team-Up #1. Scooby and the gang are joined by Batman and Robin as they investigate the recent Man-Bat sightings. But is Kirk Langstrom behind the recent Man-Bat related crime €“ or is it someone else? This is a delightful all-ages comic starring two great franchises that work really nicely together as both are about solving mysterious crimes at their core. Sholly Fisch, who wrote the Grant Morrison Action Comics backups, brilliantly merges the two sets of characters together so we get the structure of a Scooby-Doo cartoon with classic Batman and Robin action. And they do look like classic Batman and Robin €“ those New 52 outfits are gone, replaced with the shorts, Robin's bare legs, Batman's blue cape and the yellow bat symbol, so if you dig that look like me, this comic is for you. Scooby-Doo Team-Up joins Batman '66 as one of the more purely fun DC comics being published, leaving behind the dark and gritty stories for others to write, and reminding readers, younger readers especially, of the enjoyably silly kind of stories DC can offer. I especially liked how Fisch got in all the catchphrases and moments fans of both series will love and put them side by side in a way that doesn't feel awkwardly put-together. I don't recall seeing Brizuela's art before but his work in this comic is absolutely fantastic and really shined. Great writing and art all round, Scooby-Doo Team-Up #1 is an excellent comic that younger comics readers will love though fans of old school Batman will like this too.
