6 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (13 February)
5. Superior Spider-Man #27 By Dan Slott And Giuseppe Camuncoli (Marvel)
The Green Goblin returns for the final Superior Spider-Man arc, Goblin Nation, which kicks off with this issue. Marvel's numbering is really getting out of hand - this is #27.NOW and also a #1 issue?! Riiiight... it's just #27, guys, stop overcomplicating things! When the series first started, Otto had New York City under his control ridiculously quickly - now, the tables have turned and he's lost complete control. The spider-bots have been infected with a virus that doesn't recognise anyone with a goblin mask or logo, allowing the Goblin King and his minions to wreak havoc on the city without Otto knowing where to go. Inside Otto's head, Peter Parker attempts to turn things around by slipping into Otto's memories - but what will he find there? Giuseppe Camuncoli's art is as amazing as ever. The scenes in the Mindscape are super creepy with an omnipotent and frog-like Otto peering into Peter's memories for ways to defeat the Green Goblin, who also looks fantastic - it's gotta be Norman, right? Dan Slott gives us the long awaited encounter between Superior Spider-Man and the Goblin King - kind of, I don't want to spoil it here - which is a great dialogue driven scene rendered in wide panels that give the comic a movie effect. Also Goblin knows Spider-Man's secret, giving the scene extra spice. The issue ends with an inversion of a scene from earlier in this series when Spider-Man and his minions tore down Shadowland, as the Goblin King's army takes on Spider-Island! Superior Spider-Man #27 gets off to a cracking start with surprises galore and looks to be a suitably epic finale to this great series.
