7 Image Comics Series Crying Out For A TV Show
With The Walking Dead and Outcast already on the air, where could Image go next?
Image Comics, perhaps one of the biggest publishers in the comic medium outside of Marvel and DC, is a place where industry creators enjoy the ability to create brand new ideas and keep full control.
But Image has also enjoyed some success with their properties being adapted to television, like Outcast and most notably, The Walking Dead. With the latter now approaching it's eighth season, where could Image Comics look for their next incredible TV series adaptation of a beloved comic?
With a broad range of titles new and old, the publisher is literally swimming in concepts and characters that could make the transition to TV and become the next big water-cooler discussion topic in offices the world over. Superheroes just make a small part of what Image has to play with, as they also have gods, pop stars, magic swords and glowing penises on offer (yes, that's a thing, we'll get to it).
Here are seven Image Comics series that are perfect for television...
7. Injection
Injection from Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, follows a team of scientists once brought together to plan for the future of Britain. Finding that the future has stagnated, the team decide to change that. We pick up with them years later, when their interference has taken on a life of its own.
The series is actually a look at traditional British fictions and science fiction in particular, like Quatermass, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who, while also looking at classic myths and legends. So as a TV series, it could work as a kind of semi-anthology series, with each season focusing on a different member of the Injection team and on a different form of classic British sci-fi.
Moreover, the series plays with some interesting concepts, as the antagonistic Injection AI actually narrated the first story arc in the comic, ultimately finding the 'frequency' that allowed it to speak directly to Maria Killbride so she could hear it. Could you imagine a narration on the TV show that suddenly the characters could hear? How much of an unnerving twist that would be?
Injection would allow for some fun experimentation with the form.
