8 Best Comic Storylines Featuring Spider-Man: Far From Home Villains

The MCU's latest villains have been in some fantastic comics!

Spider Man Far From Home Mysterio Black Suit
Marvel

2019 is shaping up to be something of a bumper year for the MCU. Brie Larson is set to take flight as Captain Marvel in March, a little under a month before Iron Man, Captain America et al. attempt to undo the damage wrought by Thanos in Avengers: End Game, and there's even talk that Marvel Studios could begin planning the arrival of the X-Men and Fantastic Four this year too.

All in all, there's a lot for the House of Ideas to juggle this year, but one film that potentially bears the most responsibility of them all (pun intended) is Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first entry in the MCU's highly anticipated fourth phase and a project that will strike the tone for the franchise going forward.

Jon Watts' follow-up to Spider-Man: Homecoming is perhaps the year's worst kept secret, but the sequel still looks set to pack plenty of surprises - at least in regard to its villains. Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the film, is the biggest name involved, but the Elementals - or at least, a version of the Elementals - are set to feature too.

As far as villains go, they aren't exactly the most famous, but with plenty of stellar comic book story-arcs to their name, they shouldn't be written off either...

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
