8 Iconic Superman Villains Yet To Appear On Film

Give us Brainiac already!

Considering we've had seven Superman movies to date, the Man of Steel's extensive rogues gallery is something of an untapped resource.

Sure, we've had three big-screen incarnations of Lex Luthor and two of General Zod, but the amount of Man of Steel villains that cinema has shunned is staggering.

Henry Cavill's Last Son of Krypton will face off against Apokoliptian general Steppenwolf in the upcoming Justice League (once they figure out a way to resurrect him), after which we're going to need a big bad for Man of Steel 2, which is believed to have entered active development last year.

Whoever ends up helming the super sequel - the latest reports suggest it could be Matthew Vaughn - has almost eight decade's worth of comic book source material to draw from when the villain recruitment process begins.

And given that so many iconic Superman villains are yet to find their way to the big screen, lets hope a member of the motley crew we've assembled here gets the nod.

8. Brainiac

The concept of AI overthrowing its human overlords is a hotter topic than ever these days, given recent technological advancements and high-profile hackings, so Brainiac is an apt villain for the modern zeitgeist.

Often depicted as a Kryptonian computer programme which becomes self-aware, and at other times a green-skinned personification of that, this techtastic nasty has enough nouse to outsmart the Man of Steel several times over.

He also has a penchant for shrinking down worlds and placing them inside bottles, a trick he pulled on the Kryptonian capital city of Kandor.

Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in 1958, Brainiac is one of the greatest Superman villains yet to make his cinema debut, though he's come close in the past.

The Silver Age bad guy would have served as the villain in a fifth Christopher Reeve movie had that gone ahead, and was included in Kevin Smith's bonkers Superman Lives screenplay.
