8 Things The Doctor Doom Movie Must Do

Or else it's doomed to failure.

Oh, 20th Century Fox, why didn't you just do this the last time around?

After yet another horrific attempt at a Fantastic Four movie, the studio has finally realised it has one of the greatest Marvel characters of all time in its hands.

Yep, Doctor Doom - one of the best comic villains ever - is getting his own film.

This bombshell was dropped at Comic-Con 2017 when Legion and Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley strongly hinted that he is developing a solo project focusing on the metal-faced ruler of Latveria, blowing fan minds in the process.

Given that Fox doesn't have the greatest track record with Fantastic Four characters, fan apprehension is to be expected, but Hawley has the right credentials to pull this off and the amount of quality source material (ie the Marvel vault) at his disposal is vast.

Okay, so part of us wishes it was Marvel Studios that was doing it, but it isn't necessarily Von Doomed to failure in the hands of Fox, especially if Hawley and his creative team gets these basic details right.

8. Actually Get Victor Von Doom Right

This would be a good place to start, wouldn't it?

It sounds like it goes without saying, but clearly it doesn't since we haven't seen a passable version of Victor Von Doom in three Fantastic Four films.

The doctor has been savaged on screen, stripped down to his most megalomaniacal traits and presented as yet another would-be world dominator.

Neither Tim Story nor Josh Trank appeared to realise it, but Doctor Doom is one of the most layered villains in the Marvel Universe.

He was a brilliant and respected scientist, but his obsession with perfection alienated him from his peers; and post-villain transformation he's a character whose desire to make the world a better place is forever at odds with his massive ego.

Then there's the tragic aspect of Victor, who lost his parents in horrible circumstances as a child and is forced to raise himself in a dictatorship he goes on to rule.

Later comics have even painted Doom as a hero, so if his solo film plumbs the depths, there are stories of pathos, internal conflict and moral shades of grey to tell - none of these things can be glossed over if they plan on getting it right this time.
