In the recent Last Days of Magic comic arc, Doctor Strange travels through time recruiting past Sorcerer Supremes that have come before him, to unite against The Empirikul, who are threatening to wipe out all magic throughout the universe.

Should Kevin Feige and co. choose to employ this particular arc, it could be the MCU's version of a 'what if' story, showing Strange across time and space without majorly impacting the rest of the Cinematic Universe.

Obviously, with the Time Stone in the hands of Thanos, and Doctor Strange no longer among the living, Earth's most recent Sorcerer Supreme will be unable to kick start the story. Instead, we could see a Supreme from further into the future come back and recruit Strange and, if staying true to the comics, a young, arrogant Ancient One before she became Ancient.

Not only would this give us a chance to see more of the same self-contained, multi-dimensional adventure that made the first movie so fun, there would be genuine stakes for Strange should the villainous Empirikul succeed in their plan.
