Ranking Every 2017 Comic Book TV Show Worst To Best

2. The Gifted

The Gifted Marvel
Fox

Set in a world where all the X-Men have disappeared, Fox's The Gifted provides yet another reason for the company's small-screen dominance this year, offering a character-driven tale without the massive names of the franchise's biggest hitters.

Its premise, following the parents of two mutant children as they evade the authorities, is uniquely compelling. It's a world unlike any we've seen in Fox's films thus far and, while they've never been ones to shirk the odd dystopia here and there, this one feels frighteningly real.

The series has nine episodes to boast at the time of writing, and while some key figures in the X-Men canon have made appearances since (most notably Blink and Polaris), The Gifted's focus on the Strucker family is by far its biggest strength. It's a remarkable tale of perseverance, family, and persecution, and perhaps the best representation of the mutant allegory we've seen to date.

There've been plenty of X-Men heavy years since the millennium, but with Logan, The Gifted and Legion a firm presence on the screen in 2017, it would appear as though this year - more than others - has been the mutants' best.
