Scott Pilgrim Goes Colour!

One of the greatest black and white comic books ever gets a reissue in a deluxe, resized, full-color hardcover series.

Bryan Lee O'Malley has announced at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle that his Scott Pilgrim, a six-volume black and white graphic novel series from Oni Press, will be reissued as a deluxe, resized, full-color hardcover series beginning this year. The colouring has been carried out by Nathan Fairbairn and judging by the preview images released so far this is going to be a fine excuse to re-read, what I consider one of the greatest comics books series ever. In the press release, series editor James Lucas Jones goes on to explain the origins of these reissues; "Everybody loves Bryan's black-and-white artwork but after seeing the few color stories he did with Scott and the gang, it was hard to avoid imagining a 'what if?' scenario. Now those wild dreams have come true. And to have one of the best colorists in the industry at the helm, that just seals the deal." Additionally the Oni marketing director Cory Casoni added; "It's been eight years since the first Scott Pilgrim book was published, since then, the series has seen over twenty first reprints of the original format, with over a million copies of the first volumes sold. Scott Pilgrim Color Hardcover, Volume 1 takes the familiar story from the original Scott Pilgrim series and gives it a new look. Plus it includes previously unpublished extras and bonus materials making this mighty tome one that's required reading for Scottaholics everywhere!" Also confirmed were a few more details about these deluxe harcover colour editions which will measure at 6" x 9", feature a new cover by O'Malley, and comes with supplemental and never-before-published materials. So there you have it. Scott Pilgrim's back with a fresh coat of pain and some great sounding deluxe editions as well. Volume 1, Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, arrives in August with volume 2 not far behind in October with the remaining volumes published bi-annually and retailing at $24.99. I can hardly wait and this is a fine way to pass the time in the build up to Bryan Lee O'Malley's next book 'Seconds' due out in 2013.
