As an 80s baby, the films from the retro age are reminiscent of my childhood. I’m sure, whether born during the 80′s or not, many of you would agree that the array of cinematic classics that were born on screen at that time should never ever be remade…
The negative views towards remaking 80s films isn’t helped by recently disappointing attempts such as dystopian sci-fi action movie Total Recall (2012). However, that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from churning out renovations of classic movies from its film factory. Currently in the works are: RoboCop remake due in 2014; delayed Ghostbusters 3 sequel to be confirmed; Star Wars: Episode VII due in 2015; and even talks of a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining!
So with these trends of creating a seemingly new nostalgia for future generations (although they could never emulate the original films), I wonder which films could actually work as a remake/reboot. So in the style of Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind (2008)… Here are 10 80′s Movies That Should Be Remade, if not literally then hypothetically…
10. The Goonies (1985)
GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!
Although I would initially cry at the thought of Richard Donner’s The Goonies being remade, I’m intrigued as to how Hollywood would approach a remake today. With the rise of technology, I doubt D.I.Y. gadgets would be made from household appliances. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Goonies would all be sat in the same room, on their laptops, creating a virtual forum for their electronic antics, as many kids don’t really play outside much nowadays…
Or it could have the potential to be brilliant with action sequences like those of the Harry Potter series and contribute to the fond childhood memories of future generations.

Some films just do not need and should not be remade. There are reasons why they known as “Classics”.
Nough said.
Technically COBRA has been remade. Back in 1995, Joel Silver produced the Cindy Crawford vehicle (marking the last time those words would ever prove necessary) FAIR GAME, which co-starred William Baldwin. That movie was based on the same Paula Gosling novel Stallone used as the (admittedly loose) basis of COBRA. According to legend, Stallone actually tried to get Gosling to take her name off of the book, so an official novelization credited to him could be released at the same time as the movie. Still, I will admit that 1995 was a looong time ago.
You didn’t really give any reasoning for why you think E.T. should be remade.
God help us all if we found out what ET does with that finger in “4-D”
Enough with the remakes already. Sheesh.
ET?!!! Are you serious? Why should a movie that was so good the first time around be remade? It’s like remaking Singing in the Rain or Sunset Blvd. There’s no need. It’s a classic film that influenced a lot of films that came after it. Instead of spending a lot of time and money remaking something that’s already great, Hollywood should put that effort toward making something new (maybe even better).
There is a trend of networking home appliances together, and combining their controls and key functions. For instance, energy distribution could be managed more evenly so that when a washing machine is on, an oven can go into a delayed start mode, or vice versa. Or, a washing machine and dryer could share information about load characteristics (gentle/normal, light/full), and synchronize their finish times so the wet laundry does not have to wait before being put in the dryer.:””
