One of the beautiful things about movies is that there’s always more around the corner. The world is stuffed with talented actors, intriguing characters, and exciting stories, so when they all come together as one, we get treated to something special. Even though the Oscars just wrapped, next year's set of award-caliber movies are already on the horizon, and there’s plenty more exciting films scheduled beyond that.

Seeing actors return to established characters is always enjoyable but there’s something tantalising about a role no one’s seen yet. An actor can do anything with it and despite what pictures may show and trailers might suggest, it’s not until the film is rolling before us that we know what they’ve created.

Hollywood is churning out biopics almost as quick as inspirational public figures are dying, but the ones that stand out carry a mixture of a strong lead actor and a compelling true story. Such is the case for many upcoming films, where a single mother who invents a mop could be just as interesting as the guy who invented Apple. Even then, jumping into original characters gives limitless opportunities, while new actors playing familiar faces can riff off what’s been done before.

Be it action blockbuster or prestige drama, playing supervillain or real person, these are 10 fantastic actors in promising roles that we’re just dying to see.

10. Christoph Waltz In Spectre

It doesn’t get much better than this. Christoph Waltz, best known for playing deliciously evil characters is stepping in to throw down with James Bond. Yes please.

Other than recognising that he’s the latest in a string of acclaimed actors to play a Bond villain, not much is known for sure about the character. As Franz Oberhauser, he’s rumoured to be the son of the man who adopted Bond upon his parents' deaths. Seeing as he's the villain, it's safe to assume that Oberhauser became jealous of Bond or they had some sort of falling out. In either case, the history between them should offer up a bevy of emotional backing that made Sean Bean’s Alec Trevelyan such a great villain.

Fans clamouring for him to secretly be Ernst Stavro Blofeld may be a little disappointed (especially since some have surmised that that distinction is more likely to fall upon Monica Bellucci). Regardless of whether he's Blofeld or not, we can bet that Waltz's evil megalomaniac will be a fitting foil to James Bond.
