At this point, it’s probably take some major catastrophe to cease the progress of the upcoming Justice League movie. After the unbelievable success of the Avengers, Warner Bros. are positively foaming at the mouth at the prospect of getting access to that sort of cash at the box office.
You may have heard the rumours that Warner Bros. are planning to leave the Batman franchise, put to bed only recently with Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, where it is for now. Meaning the next time we see the Caped Crusader on the big screen may be in their increasingly imminent Superhero ensemble piece.
Batman is a prestigious role to play; over his 70+ year lifespan the character has risen to deity-like levels of prestige, and many out there have his image – their interpretation of him no less – in their minds eye, making casting a tough call. After all, hell hath no fury like a comic book fan scorned.
With that in mind, I decided to compile my top picks for a new Batman. After all, Bale is out, and there’s a bat-shaped hole in cinema to be filled. So, without much more ado, let’s take a look at those actors who are intense enough, chiselled enough or otherwise have the acting ability to wear the cape and cowl.

Man you are obsessed with Batman’s jawline.I hope Ben directs and he casts Casey as Batman….Seriously not a bad list. Some odd choices(Karl Urban,Ray Stevenson) and some good ones(Fassebender,Joel Edgarton).
Ray Stevenson I could definatly see as Batman. Also Fassebender but either one would do.
If this was based soley on Jawline why not have Clint Eastwood or Arnold play him ?I think Karl Urban is probably the best fit. Ben Affleck is a good actor, but not for Batman. He would be just as bad as George Clooney. It’s not his style.
Daniel Day-Lewis: Great actor but old to play batman
Michael Fassbender: too obvious…having golden run.
Ray Stevenson: Remember how punisher end up?
Ben Affleck: Great as Director.
Andrew Lincoln: Good but not good enough
Josh Brolin: Again good actor but old.
Karl Urban: Not superhero material.
Guy Pearce: Will love to see him as Iron Man (His role in Lockout)
Jon Hamm: Not superhero material. And people are very used to see him on Mad Men.
Few of them are really good.
From the your list I will say Joel Edgerton is my choice.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
No. Just no.
Lol XD
I prefer Joseph Gordon Levitt or Tom Hardy to play Batman.
Jon Hamm should be Lex Luthor. Ever since he was in that Funny or Die sketch, I have thought that he’d be great.
If, and this is a BIG if, they ever reunited Bale and Nolan for a Dark Knight Returns style story (old man Bruce), I’d like to see Daniel Day-Lewis show up as an older Joker, since Heath Ledger is obviously unavailable. Day-Lewis is just about the only actor working who could bring that level of commitment to the role that Ledger did, and I think he’d do it uncannily.
First of all, Ben Affleck is definitely out since the beginning. It was just a rumor. Second, you seem obsessed with your own assumption that the League would feature older versions of the heroes, which goes against all evidence (which is very little so far, indeed). They would call younger actors to make it a franchise, or many. There are interesting choices here. I’d never though of Josh Brolin as a good Batman — in a completely different context than this JL movie, that is — but he is sure interesting. Ray Stevenson too, same observation. Fassbender is slightly more believable, but I’d say 90% unfeasible, due to his roles as Magneto and his current star power. But, bottom line, please start considering all the variables and the sheer reality of the facts when you get to make a list like this one.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt. That’ll help keep costs down. This (pointless) list assumes all these (expensive) actors will be fighting for a part in a popcorn summer movie. Not likely. I can safely predict NONE of them will be considered for the part…
I think Wes Bentley would make an intriguing Batman. I see him as a cross between Micheal Keaton (someone you would not expect to be Batman) who could pull of the rich playboy character well as well as an actor that can show the darker brooding side of Batman. if you think about it it is the character of Bruce Wayne that people should focus most on. That is the appeal of Iron Man movies – the take on the person behind the mask which Robert Downey has pulled off well. Many actors can wear the mask, talk in an ominous voice and do action sequences. I think that conveying two different personas and balancing it in one character is something the Wes Bentley could pull off very well.
What about Jim Caviezal from Person of Interest? He’s got a quite silent and sinister voice, seems very physically fit and I can see him playing an older Bruce Wayne/Batman.
All these choices are god awful. And why the hell are you basing the look of Batman off Alex Ross’ terrible art style? NO. JUST NO TO ALL.
I think Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum (Flash or Lex) should be in The Jistice League movie
Before I clicked the next button to begin the list I said to myself “20 bucks says that Jon Hamm is on this list” and BAM! that is the first name to pop up.
You put Ben Affleck on this list of “Ten Actors who should play Batman”. Your entire list is now invalid. (although I do like Michael Fassbender)
Tom Hardy.
Karl urban ever since I saw Dredd. The only prob with urban is that he doesn’t really look like ol’ Brucie. Jon hamm is a pretty good choice. Ray stephenson looks like him but we don’t want another Punisher War zone. But maybe he could don the cape and cowl. I dunno just sayin.
