10 "Awful" Comic Book Movies Worth A Second Chance

10. Nick Fury: Agent Of SHIELD

Nickfury Nowadays, when people think of Nick Fury, they likely think of the grizzled SHIELD Director played by Samuel L. Jackson, but this was not always the case. From the late 80s and up through the 90s, there was a big push to have another TV series based on a Marvel comic, possibly with the goal of replicating the success of the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk series. Still, attempts continued with two more made-for-TV movies. One was the god-awful, better-forgotten Generation X. And the other was Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD. The latter was notable for starring David Hasselhoff as Fury. Trust me, I know how ridiculous that sounds. So that made it all the more surprising to turn on the TV and see a poorly-shaven, eye-patch wearing, cigar-chomping Hasselhoff with a grizzled, no-time-for-bullshit attitude. In short, it was like he stepped right out of a Steranko comic. It was also written by David Goyer, who seems to have a monopoly on writing movies based on DC characters. The movie itself isn't actually that good. It combined the character of Andrea Von Strucker with another Hydra leader, Viper. Sandra Hess' over-the-top performance as Viper makes Svetlana Khodchenkova's take in The Wolverine Oscar-worthy by comparison and the Helicarrier is included in this movie, but they probably shouldn't have even bothered. But Hasselhoff's performance makes it worth watching. He's far, far from being anywhere close to the level of Jackson, but then again, Nick Fury doesn't require a whole lot of range.
