10 Best Star Wars Expanded Universe Stories

zombie stormto This is really hard to talk about. Not emotionally, but physically there are just too many stories in the Star Wars Expanded Universe to wade through. Unless a person was willing to dedicate their entire reading/gaming (/social) life to discovering all the incredible SW lore that exists out there it's simply impossible to create the perfect top ten list. So instead the following stories mentioned will be viewed and rated for not only being good, but also their potential to become Star Wars movies in the next few years. With a new galactic empire on the horizon and Walt Disney leading the flagship it is very possible for the first time in history that the Expanded Universe stories will make it to the big screen. They are also ten of the best stories Expanded Universe has to offer for anyone looking good books to read or games to play.

10. The Splinter of Mind's Eye

Lesson number one: always have a back up plan. George Lucas sure did and it was called The Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Written by Dean Foster and published in 1978, the year following A New Hope's release, the book was meant to serve as source material for the sequel in case Star Wars had been a total failure. Of course, by the time it was published (Foster was first asked to write it in 1976) there was no more need for the story and what transpired instead is one of the weirdest Expanded Universe stories ever told. For one thing, Luke defeats Vader in a lightsaber duel and is most certainly not his son. For another thing the object of desire for both the light and dark side of the force is called the kaiburr crystal and belongs as a talisman to some bizarre ancient religion based of the Cythulhu mythos. Take all that strangeness and then place it in a swampy Dagobah atmosphere and you have one incredibly off-canon Star Wars tale, but it's still cited as a source of inspiration for the Expanded Universe. How awesome would it be if Disney said to heck with it and made The Splinter of the Mind's Eye into a movie anyways? It would be like the 80s low budget, John Carpenter, Star Wars flick come to life.
