7. McGonagall Is A Traitor

Maggie Smith is a national treasure, let's make no odds about that. And not only is her portrayal of McGonagall one of the most accurate in the films, but it's a stern, teacherly performance that nearly everyone can love and relate to. Nearly everyone. There are those out there that believe that Minerva McGonagall was a traitor to Dumbledore, a Death Eater and purely evil. She's there at Privet Drive before the others: what was she doing? She encourages Quidditch, which divides the school, doesn't favour her house all that often, and buys Harry the broomstick that Quirrell enchants. She doesn't ever suspect Quirrell, she's livid with the students for finding the troll, and perhaps most tellingly, she doesn't agree with celebrating when Voldemort falls (the first time around). Coincidence? Why it's probably not true For real? McGonagall a traitor? Maybe some theorists have been on the butterbeer... She's there at Privet Drive because she's not sure if the Dursleys are suitable guardians for Harry. She encourages Quidditch because she's competitive, and wasn't the one who tampered with the broom; she might not be as biased as Snape is towards Slytherin, but isn't that a good thing? And no one suspected Quirrell - only Snape - and of course she's angry with Harry and co. when the take down a fully-grown troll alone. And as for not celebrating Voldemort's downfall, she's a Gryffindor. She holds chivalry, bravery and courage above all things: it wouldn't be like her to rejoice over the fall of monster, but to hold respect for all those who died trying to stop him.
