Hollywood has long gotten many of their best ideas from books as some of the greatest movies of all time have come from classic literature. Just in the last few years, book series such as Harry Potter, Twilight, and the Hunger Games have dominated the box office. Since most of the hard work has already been done by the author, it's often relatively easy to transfer the ideas espoused in a work of literature onto the screen. Movies like the Godfather, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and many, many others have been adapted from preexisting works. Despite Hollywood's propensity for adapting literary works, the following books have either not been adapted or have not been adapted properly and deserve another try..
10. The Invisible Man
H.G Wells classic novel has been adapted into multiple movies with probably the most famous being James Whale's 1933 version. However it's hardly the definitive version and the book is ripe for another adaption. The novel follows a scientist who turns himself invisible. Eventually he decides to embark on a "reign of terror", using his invisibility to get whatever he wants. Eventually, though, he is caught and killed, after chasing someone who he believes betrayed him. While the Invisible Man might be a little tricky to do properly, a sure hand could pull out an extremely suspenseful story. The time period should remain the same as in the novel and the film should go for a dark thriller/horror film tone.
