10 Darkly Disturbing Disney Movie Theories

5. Toy Story 3 Is A Metaphor For The Holocaust

It might be the most financially successful of the franchise, but rumour has it there’s a much darker meaning to Toy Story 3 than face value would suggest. Conjured up by film critic Jordan Hoffman, this theory purports that the movie is actually a thinly veiled allegory for one of humankind’s greatest atrocities: the Holocaust.

Far-fetched it may seem at first, but we only have to look to Toy Story 3’s plot to find some disturbing similarities. According to Hoffman, the college-bound Andy leaving his toys behind mirrors Allied nations deserting the European Jewish population as Hitler rose to power while the toys hiding in an attic is a clear reference to Anne Frank.

The toys are then shipped off to the movie’s version of a concentration camp, Sunnyside Daycare, where they’re lulled into a false sense of security by the resident Sonderkommando (led by Lotso) and mistreated by tyrannical toddlers (obvious Nazis).

It doesn’t end there either. The toys almost find themselves meeting a nasty end in an incinerator before they’re saved and find themselves a new home at Bonnie’s house, clearly a stand-in for Israel.

It makes you wonder what Toy Story 4, due out in 2019, might really be all about. The Bosnian genocide or Khmer Rouge dictatorship, perhaps?
