10 Directors Who Are Notoriously Difficult To Work With

3. Oliver Stone

Oliver Stone Oliver Stone, a man that at 66 still openly admits to consuming more drugs than a 60s counterculturalist, does not make friends on film sets. In fact, his attitude has gained him a reputation as one of the most monstrous filmmakers in Hollywood. Sean Penn, who worked with Stone on U-Turn, said that talking to the director was like "talking to a pig," which is perhaps further evidenced by the fact that the director once bluntly told Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx "you're just not good at all, are you?" Stone's ballbusting technique at one point saw James Woods quit Salvador; when he came back, Stone almost killed Woods in an incident involving an extra, a loaded rifle and Woods's head. In case you're wondering, Stone's not calmed down lately, either: he rubbed Blake Lively up the wrong way on the set of his latest film Savages, prompting her to buy the crew 'I survived Oliver Stone' t-shirts at the end of the shoot, because they "needed something nice after working with him for that long." Richard Dreyfuss, who worked with Stone on W, said of the notable leftist: "you can be a fascist, even when you're on the left."
