10 Essential Brat Pack Movies

The term 'Brat Pack' was of course given to a now infamous group of young actors who appeared in many teen-oriented movies in the 1980s - a large proportion of which were directed by John Hughes. Among them were names as famous as Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Anthony Michael Hall and a seemingly huge cast of players. Membership of the 'official' Brat Pack is dependent upon being in either St Elmo's Fire or The Breakfast Club, but there were a lot of other young actors and actresses starring in other films, who could feasibly be considered in the same vein - so I have widened the net a bit, but I think they could all legitimately be called Brat Pack movies. The actors who were given this title apparently hated it. They were awarded the title thanks to an article by David Blum published in October 1985 after the writer had gone out on the town with a couple of actors and allegedly grew jealous of their success. He wrote a blistering article and his term 'Brat Pack' has stuck to this day. In 2010, Blum admitted that he should never have written the article but that a retraction was just too late. The only thing left to do is to celebrate the movies made by these actors. It really was a boon time in Hollywood for young talent and this led to classic films being made in the 1980s whose significance and influence is growing and growing. So sit back and relax with the 10 best Brat Pack Movies.
