10 Inferior Remakes That Should Never Have Been Made

6. Planet of the Apes (2001)

After the success of such films as €˜Edward Scissorhands€™ and €˜Ed Wood€™ Director Tim Burton made a rare misstep with this reboot. Released in 1968 the original €˜Planet of the Apes€™ was the story of an astronaut crew caught in a future where apes, not man, are the dominant species. Starring a fabulous Charlton Heston as well as a solid Roddy McDowall the public did indeed GO APE for this film, with no less than five movies in the original franchise as well as a TV series. But what worked previously did not connect with modern audiences. Casting Mark Wahlberg as the lead and even such barely recognizable stars as Helena Bonham Carter and Michael Clarke Duncan as primates it proved the impossibility of comparing apples to oranges. While technically there was nothing wrong except for the fact that it wasn€™t the original, the story had nothing new to offer. Pair that with a terrible ending that left you puzzled. €˜Rise of the Planet of the Apes€™ in 2011 was fascinating as a prequel and with a standout performance by character actor Andy Serkis was much more memorable and will fare better in the test of time.
