10 Most Hyped Movies Of All Time (And How They Turned Out)
The most hyped movies ever made didn't always live up to expectations... but most did.
Thanks to brilliant marketing ploys, Hollywood has become a master of whetting the appetite of fans across the globe. The anticipation that arises when a new movie is on the horizon can become almost palpable, and throughout the years, some films have garnered more hype than others.
It makes sense that certain films might generate more hype than others, and a lot of that has to do with movies that are either adaptations of famous works, or they could be sequels (or even prequels) of previously successful franchises.
Whatever the reason for the hype, there are a few movies that came out over the years with far more hype than others. Think back to some of the movies that made you want to drop everything and head into a theater... perhaps you skipped school or work to make certain you were the first in line. Those are the movies this list is talking about.
Seeing as there are hundreds of examples of hyped films that had folks camping out days or weeks prior to an opening, this list is focusing on the most hypes of them all. Did the movie live up to the hype, or did it fail to satisfy expectations?
10. Spider-Man (2002)
Expectations were high when Sam Raimi got to work on a Spider-Man film back in the early 2000s. The notion of making a feature film on Marvel's most identifiable superhero had been tooled with for decades, but it took the success of the X-Men film two years earlier for anyone to think it might actually work.
When it got the green light, the Internet was abuzz with rumors and speculation on the film. This only helped to elevate the movie's hype, and it got to the point where the movie would either satisfy the fans or completely disappoint everyone.
Fortunately, the movie turned out to be a massive success. The various changes made to the characters and the manner in which it was tackled was beloved by fans. What started out as something of a gamble turned into a format for absolute success when it came to making superhero franchise films of Marvel properties.
When Spider-Man managed to make over $400 million at the box office, it helped solidify superheroes as a viable product for future development. It's unlikely the MCU would have successfully established itself six years later had Raimi's Spider-Man not done as well as it did. In terms of hype for this film, it absolutely met expectations.
