10 Movie Characters Who Got Undeservedly Brutal Deaths

We'll never forgive Joss Whedon.

A great movie death can be the icing on the cake to an already great movie or character - get it right and you'll cement them in cinema history forever, but miscalculate it and infamy may instead ensue.

Now, there's nothing wrong with a brutal death scene if it feels justified or appropriate: few are going to have qualms about an a**hole villain being brutally taken apart for their misdeeds, for instance.

And likewise, there are times where the hero can die a grim death and it feels completely right: take Sgt. Howie (Edward Woodward) being burned to death at the end of The Wicker Man, or Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) annihilating his body to save the universe in Avengers: Endgame.

But sometimes, audiences will be left feeling genuinely nauseated and disgusted by a character's unnecessarily nasty demise, either a result of filmmakers who didn't correctly judge the tone of their work, or those who went out of their way to leave audiences disturbed and appalled.

To that end, some of these deaths absolutely do benefit their movies dramatically, while others may well have came across offputting for the wrong reasons.

Either way, these characters were all dispatched in a far grislier manner than either they deserved or just about anybody expected...
