10 Post-Apocalyptic Films That Prove Mankind Is Doomed
10. A Boy And His Dog (1975)
Based on the short story by Harlan Ellison, the story posits an alternative history to the world; one where JFK survived the assassination attempt and mankind focussed its attentions on advancements in telepathy and robotics. If youve ever played the Fallout series or read The Manhattan Projects; youll understand this weird new world. The year is now 2024, a teenager and his psychic bearded collie (you did read that right) travel across the American Southwest, now a desert wasteland devastated by nuclear warheads. As youd expect from any teenager, his primary concerns are food and sex - of which there is a shortfall in both departments. At its ugly heart lies an incredibly grim and misogynistic story about survival and teenage desire in a world without law or government. Theres a telling line in the directors commentary where he suggests the only human in this movie is a dog.
