Joss Whedon has recently announced that the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show will need to stand on its own apart from the events of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For that to happen, the S.H.I.E.L.D. show will need its own characters.
Here is a list of 10 of the more interesting S.H.I.E.L.D. members that would make fantastic additions to the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show.
Note that Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye who have been S.H.I.E.L.D. members either in the comics or cinematic universe have not been included as they are the stars of The Avengers, and are unlikely to play a big role in the S.H.I.E.L.D. show.
Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Sharon Carter have also been excluded as they are known best for their association with Captain America and they are set to appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Eric O’Grady aka Ant-Man has also been excluded as an Ant-Man film is in development.
10. Agent Jasper Sitwell

Agent Sitwell has appeared in the Marvel One-Shot short films The Consultant and Item 47 and briefly in Thor and Avengers, played by Max Hernandez. As shown in The Consultant, Sitwell is a high-ranking agent, but he is not as high ranking as Agent Coulson. It seems in Item 47 that Sitwell has received a promotion since Coulson’s untimely death and is taking over some of Coulson’s duties. In his short time in his promoted position he has made some interesting decisions.
While Sitwell is not as recognisable and well-loved as Coulson, he has had some funny moments in the short films. Sitwell is very likely to be a recurring character in the series and it will be interesting to see what will happen with Sitwell given more screen time.

Holy banana stand! Please tell me their not going to use Eric O’Grady instead of Hank Pym in the Ant-Man movie.
It’s okay JB. I don’t think Eric O’Grady will be used in the film.
Edgar Wright has confirmed that the script is an origin story so will focus on Pym.
I put my comment about O’Grady at the start to explain why there is no Ant-Man on the list. He will be an Avenger so it’s unlikely he will be a main character in the show.
Good Lord, why do NONE of these “who we want to see” lists have Nick Fury, Jr.?! You do know you’ll never get Sam Jackson on the show, why not have a “surrogate” of sorts that fully connects MARVEL NOW & the MCU with the TV series?
…..Or do folks not know about Nick Fury, Jr.?
I didn’t know very much about Nick Fury, Jr.
I agree with you that it would make a lot of sense to bring him into the show.
I do still think that Senior is currently the more interesting character, so deserves the place on the list.
Moon Knight stayed with the Avengers for awhile, and was gradually accepted into their ranks; but Khonshu was responsible for influencing Spector to join the team, as Spector had no interest in being an Avenger. Marc became romantically involved with Tigra, much to the disgust of Khonshu, who viewed her as a creature of the day. After Hawkeye’s wife, Mockingbird, tried and failed to conceal her role in the death of the Phantom Rider (who had raped her), the couple broke up their marriage, and Moon Knight joined Tigra and Mockingbird in leaving the Avengers since all three of them believed the team’s rules against killing were wrong. The three ex-Avengers formed a group of their own for a time, and helped Giant-Man (Bill Foster) escape the High Evolutionary. When the Phantom Rider’s vengeful ghost haunted Mockingbird, the trio turned to Hellstorm, who revealed that Khonshu’s spirit had inhabited Moon Knight’s body, and drove him out to help defeat the Phantom Rider. Khonshu left the earthly plane to battle rival god Seth thereafter, leaving Moon Knight without a reason to return to the Avengers. Later, after upgrading his armor and weaponry Khonshu’s rejoined with Moon Knights body.
