10 Things You Need To Know About The Star Wars Spin-Off Movies

10. They€™ll Come Out Every Two Years (Like Clockwork)

The traditional Star Wars release pattern, when a trilogy was in production, was a new Episode every three years. But that was before Marvel steamrolled the box office and decided unleashing three new movies a year from 2017 onwards wasn't too much. And, because Disney chief Bob Iger can't stand only having one mega-franchise under his belt, Star Wars is going to up the ante a little bit. The plan now is to have a new movie each and every year. The regular Episodes will be released only two years apart (nowadays a three year gap between movies indicates a complete reboot, rather than a direct continuation), with every gap year seeing a spin-off hit, making sure there's no possible way for people to forget that Star Wars is back. On top of arriving every two years, the spin-offs will also see the franchise stake a permanent claim on the lucrative December pre-Christmas weekend, which helped launch The Lord Of The Rings, Avatar and The Hobbit to mega-success - every one of the upcoming Wars movies has their release pegged in the billion-dollar-baiting spot. Although the series' plan at the moment only goes up to Episode IX (in 2019), don't expect things to end there - even if the Skywalker narrative is (once again) wrapped up, these divergent tales have the potential to create their own sub-franchises, filling the time before the inevitable Sequel Sequel Trilogy comes around.
