10 Upcoming Movies That Could Beat Avengers: Endgame At The Box Office

It Is Inevitable.

Avengers: Endgame has been out for a week and is already enjoying a staggering level of success. The conclusion of the 22-film arc has been a goliath at the box office, taking in over $1.2 billion dollars during its opening weekend. For comparison the previous record, held by last year's Avengers: Infinity War, was $640 million. Marvel Studios almost doubled its' own record, which is mind-blowing.

With numbers like this, Avengers: Endgame will challenge Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar for highest grossing domestic ($936 million) and international box office ($2.8 billion), respectively. To beat these numbers, Endgame will likely be in the ballpark of a $1 billion dollar domestic run and a $3 billion worldwide outing.

It is now a given that Avengers: Endgame will be among the top 4 highest-grossing movies of all-time, but it can still be challenged. There are films on the horizon that feature some of the biggest names and most popular franchises that could give the Endgame a run for its money.

Records are made to be broken and the ones Marvel Studios have set and will set in the future are no different. These 10 films are up to the task of beating Avengers: Endgame at the box office.

10. Pokemon Detective Pikachu

A movie capable of dethroning Endgame is closer than you think. Although unlikely, Detective Pikachu is an outsider candidate for biggest movie of the year.

It may seem far fetched that a movie teaming Pikachu with Justice Smith could take down a superhero epic that has been building for over a decade, but it is possible. What some may not know, or have at least forgotten, is that Pokémon is popular to an insane degree.

By some metrics, Pokémon is the most successful media franchise ever, topping the likes of Star Wars, Harry Potter and, yes, even Marvel. There is clearly a massive, Pokémon crazed audience out there that could get it past Endgame.

We would be remiss if we didn't mention the financial success of Pokémon is largely due to licensed merchandising and video games more so than the franchise's 22 anime films. However, there has never been a live-action film from Pokémon before Detective Pikachu. If the success from other media translates to the big screen, there is a large enough base to push Pikachu ahead of the world's mightiest heroes.

Detective Pikachu may be one of the least likely films on this list to beat Avengers: Endgame in total box office, but Marvel Studios will have some hefty competition during its third weekend.
