10 Weirdest Movie Appearances By Musicians

What were they thinking? Singing AND acting?!

10bowielabyrinth Gif Musicians trying their hand at acting isn€™t new. There has been a long line of singer-songwriters who've abandoned their recording booths for a shot at the big screen. It€™s been happening for years. There have been some huge success stories €“ from the great Frank Sinatra€™s superb performance in €œThe Manchurian Candidate€, to the wickedly funny performances of the parody band in €œThis is Spinal Tap€, to the newly acclaimed performance of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in €œAll By My Side€. Performances like those above prove that a shift from stage to screen is not merely possible, but worthy of encouragement. Indeed, one of the greatest contemporary Hollywood actors performing today began as a family-friendly hip-hop artist: the amiable and talented Mr Will Smith. There have also, of course, been some cringe-worthy failures €“ ranging from the predictably grating performances by the Spice Girls in their eponymous movie, to the head-smackingly bad acting shift by Jessica Simpson in €œDukes of Hazzard€, to the clumsy efforts of Prince in "Under the Cherry Moon". Paris Hilton too has released records, and if we call her a musician - which we don't think we can - she'd be topping the awful list with her 'acting' in "The Hottie and the Nottie". It feels horrible to even read that movie title doesn't it? There have been both good and bad contributions from the music biz to the film industry, but here we take a look not at the best and worst - but at the downright weird appearances by musicians in movies. Some work, and some don€™t, yet all of them are 100% odd in terms of their inclusion, their performance, or - in some cases - both.
