7. Joss Whedon Makes Wonder Woman

Given Joss Whedon's standing in the comic book industry along with his penchant for smart dialogue and strong female characters, the writer/director being hired in 2006 to make Wonder Woman seemed like a match made in heaven.

Starting work on the script immediately after finishing debut feature Serenity, Whedon eventually left and cited creative differences and general apathy from the studio towards the movie as reasons for his departure. Although he seems like a good fit for the material, the online reaction to his recently-surfaced screenplay has been mixed to say the least, but there is no doubt that Whedon had the potential to make a great Wonder Woman movie.

And what if it did happen, and it was a success?

For one, it would have erased the stigma surrounding female-led superhero movies in the immediate aftermath of Catwoman and Elektra and Wonder Woman would have escaped development hell a full decade before Patty Jenkins' record-breaking blockbuster.

Secondly, as the director of the two highest-grossing comic book movies ever and 'creative consultant' throughout all of Marvel Studios' Phase 2, Joss Whedon is an integral part of the fabric of the MCU. Had Wonder Woman turned out to launch a franchise, Whedon may have stuck with DC and never become involved in the MCU at all.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
