12 Actors Who Must Play Marvel Villains Before 2028
The big bad casting decisions to bring Kevin Feige's MCU Master Plan to life...
Earlier this month, Kevin Feige hinted that he had a master plan for every Marvel movie we would see before 2028 - an astonishing claim that brought accusations of empty brinksmanship with a newly determined DC Entertainment who were outlining their own plans - and the world was immediately intrigued. How could any studio have the confidence to plan 14 years in advance when the path of sequels would invariably rely on financial returns? And who were the thousands of characters Feige had suggested could make their way into the MCU? We put together our own take on the MCU Master Plan, and with 28 movies plotted it, attention must now turn to the actors who will take on the key villainous roles. Strictly speaking, the Phalanx and the Kree who should appear in future Marvel movies (as well as the Skrull race, probably) wouldn't necessarily require notable actors, or leading figures who would require measured casting beyond their physical appropriateness, so we'll just assume they'll be the universe's nameless grunts for the purposes of this article. And of course there are a couple of villains who should re-appear, if the 28 Movie Masterplan goes exactly as we have already predicted: Hugo Weaving's Red Skull was great but under-used, Crossbones (Frank Grill) was set up by the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) is yet to see his full role expanded on. And then there's the newly cast Doctor Doom, Toby Kebbel, who could conceivably reappear (even in a supporting villain role) in the MCU, if rights are sorted out, and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, who is far more interesting as an anti-hero/villain, and a potential face-off against Hulk should be deemed one of the possible high-lights of the forthcoming slate. Those are the names we probably already know, but what of the so far nameless rogues who will face off against Marvel's forthcoming stable of heroes?
