The Buzz: The new Tomb Raider movie has found a terrific Lara Croft in Alicia Vikander as it aims to adapt the acclaimed 2013 video game reboot, while rising Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug (The Wave) directs.
Furthermore, Vikander is joined by a stacked supporting cast, including Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Kristin Scott Thomas and Nick Frost. Could this be the video game movie to finally break the dreaded curse?
Why It'll Disappoint: The trailer released so far sadly doesn't inspire much confidence, suggesting a generic, CGI-slathered adventure romp that will most likely fail to make the most of its impressive cast.
Furthermore, the movie seems to feature Lara performing a number of ludicrously over-the-top athletic feats clearly achieved with wires and CGI, which feels entirely opposed to the grittier tone of the 2013 game reboot.
It might not be terrible, but it's probably not going to be very good either.
