As 2017's year of movies is beginning to wind down with just a handful of remaining blockbusters and awards films readying for release, studios are busy getting their ducks in a row for the next 12 months of cinema.

2018 is already gearing up to be a year for the books, but for the sake of your own sanity, it's best to keep your expectations in check, because in some cases, the writing is already on the wall that they're probably not going to be that great.

As great a year as 2017 has been for tentpole cinema, talent can only take any movie so far, and so often it's a confluence of elements scarcely working in concert that results in a successful, acclaimed film.

Meanwhile, talented actors and filmmakers will often find themselves starring in ambitious, long-awaited movies that sadly don't quite come together, leaving fans incredibly disappointed.

That's not to say that all of these movies released next year are going to be outright duds or commercial flops, but they're likely to be the troubled blockbusters that fall short of the hype and fan expectation.

Go in expecting little and maybe, just maybe, you might be pleasant surprised in a few instances...
