Shooting themselves in the foot.

Imagine yourself in a dark cinema, having dedicated the last 90 minutes of your life to another place and time. You have barely made a dent in that large vat of popcorn, so completely has the film transported you. You have gotten to know the characters and care about them and how their story will end. Everything has been perfect until, out of nowhere, the film takes a nosedive and becomes dumber than a bag of squirrels. There are many films out there with poor endings, but many of them were poor right from the start. All 15 films on this list could have had class. They could have been a contender, nestled snugly among other masterpieces in the pantheon of film lore. Alas, they did not know how to end properly. As a result they make it onto this list instead. It is arguable that a bad ending means there were flaws throughout a film. While this can be true, many great films are flawed and somehow are better for those flaws. There is nothing worse than a good film that lets itself down at the final hurdle with a curveball of ignominy. In many cases it is not even the entire ending, but just one aspect of it that derails the film. Please note: given that this article deals with movie endings, there will inevitably be some spoilers. Although the real spoilers on this list are the movie endings themselves.
