2013. Or “the year of the sequels,” as it seems to be panning out. 2013 will see the release of multiple sequels to many popular blockbusters, some of which I didn’t have room for in this list, including The Hangover III, and Grown Ups 2. Given the number of high profile movies slated for release, I wouldn’t be surprised if 2013 broke all the box office records for highest-grossing films.
Of course, it won’t all be about the big box office hits. Various critically acclaimed directors such as Martin Scorsese and Alfonso Cuaron will be putting their contributions on the table this year. 2013, also sees the expansion of the already huge, superhero craze, and this ever expanding genre continues to keep growing with no fewer than four major superhero blockbusters slated for release in 2013. Moreover, 2013 shouldn’t be a bad year for the children’s animated genre, with films such as The Croods, Despicable Me 2, The Smurfs 2 and of course the much anticipated Monsters University. So all in all, I think 2013 is going to be a massive year for the movies, and here are but 15 of the most eagerly anticipated films.
15. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Finally, after all the speculation and delays, Anchorman 2 is under production. It is due to be released in December this year, and after the great success of the first Anchorman moive starring Will Ferrell back in 2004, this sequel has generated much buzz with many film fans. Director Adam McKay has yet to reveal much detail about the plot of the film but he has confirmed Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner will be returning to the cast and reprising their roles as Ron, Brian, Brick and Champ respectively.
One thing’s for sure: if this film is anywhere near as funny as the first Anchorman film, then there is no reason why this won’t be the best comedy of the year or one of the best comedies of the decade. Adam McKay will be doing his best to make sure this is a successful and funny follow up film, and he will desperately want to avoid the dreaded curse of the movie sequel, which has ruined successful franchises for many many years.

Star Trek Into Darkness looks really good, unless you’re not a fan of the “reboot” by JJ Abrams.
Great list, I’m personally all about Anchorman, Monster University and Gatsby. Although, I am nervous Gatsby will become too Moulin Rouge-y.
I’m yet to see anything with L-Cap in that I don’t like. ManCrush central I know but the boy done good
I’m confused by the slide for The Wolverine. You say it’s the 1st film focusing on Wolverine (it isn’t, it is the 2nd) and you also say that X-Men: First Class came out in 2009, when it actually came out in 2011. X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out in 2009.
Yes apologies, Dylan. I appreciate that this is wrong knowledge. I thought I knew my x men better! Do you know if there’s a way I can change it?
Great list. I can’t wait for the second part of the Hobbit but personally feel it could have been made into two films rather than a trilogy. Seems like they’re milking the cow with that one. The Hunger Games should be good too, and if you haven’t read the trilogy of books I implore you to do so. As for Die Hard, time will tell but I feel resurrecting that franchise might be a mistake like it was with Rocky 6.
Have you even read the Great Gatsby?
What makes you say that?
Yes, in fact I am studying the Great Gatsby this year
You called Man of Steel a Chris Nolan’s movie and didn’t even mention Zack Snyder once. Really?
You called Man of Steel a Chris Nolan’s movie and didn’t mention Zack Snyder once? Really?
The Hunger Games was like the most overrated film last year. I hope Francis Lawrence can do better.
To be fair it was Nolan’s idea to reboot the Superman franchise, even if Snyder is director.
Yes-but Nolan has admitted to hating the character, as has David Goyer (the screenwriter) so I’m more excited about Snyder’s involvement than either of theirs. It’s his baby, Nolan even said so, but he doesn’t get any of the credit he will so richly deserve-and thank goodness it’s all on Snyder or we’d end up with a melancholy Superman looking for a way to day with an ultimately convaluted and nonsensical third part that Nolan fans will eat up but real people will know is garbage. Oh- and it was David Goyer’s idea, not Nolan’s…
this is real poor article. badly research, full of gramatical errors
thanks asmir :)
great constructive criticisms, oh and by the way, grammatical is spelt with two m’s.
also you missed out the word “a,” and research should be in the past tense
you is wrong you shouldnt of put an appostrothe in ‘m’s’. also you should use capitals
Asmir you just got parred
I seriously find it hard to believe that Fast & Furious 6 and Die Hard 5 are “most anticipated” by anyone other than the filmmakers themselves, anticipating their paycheck. How about Rob Zombie’s “The Lords Of Salem” and the remake of the “Evil Dead”?
fast and furious 6 is going abit far now, it has slowly started t remove its roots, wen u hear fast and furious, fast 2 n so on u instantly think cars disappointing, die hard 5 ?really ? I would like to c scream 5 in production, man of steel should b gud bt xman gone to far now as characters r becoming boring and predictive, wanna c better mutants, also I think the walking dead using the same characters bt as a feature film would be a blockbuster and highly anticipated
Cannot wait for all these films! Good list!
