18 Most Insane Film Stunts Ever Performed

10. The Man Who Would Be King - Collapsing Bridge

The Man Who Would Be King tells the tale of two British soldiers who desert and set themselves up as gods in a land where no white men have been since Alexander the Great. Overtime however, the natives weary of them and eventually revolt, leading to a scene where they overpower Sean Connery and drag him to a rope bridge, and when he gets to the middle they cut the ropes, leading to him falling down the ravine to his death.

While in the film Connery faces his impending doom with bravery (ordering them to cut the rope faster), they had a harder time finding a stuntman who'd be willing to be the one standing on the bridge. It would be an 80 foot fall onto some cardboard boxes balanced on the edge of the ravine, and being even a little off would mean missing the boxes and falling down the ravine for real.

Eventually one of the men volunteered, who fortunately made a safe landing.

9. The Man With The Golden Gun - Mid Air Roll

Another scene from the Bond movies that are widely mocked, despite being insanely dangerous to film.

At the peak of a car chase between James Bond and Francisca Scaramanga, Bond realizes he's on the wrong side of the river, and the bad guy is getting away. Not looking forward to having to turn around and drive back a few miles, he opts for a quicker route.... ramping over the water. At the top of the ramp however, there's a twist, and it sends the car into a 360-degree barrel roll in mid-air. However, it spins enough that it lands back on its wheels on the other side.

The stuntman was paid 30,000 pounds for the stunt, which he successfully completed on the first try. Wow.
