20 Best Movie Performances Of 2017

17. Daniel Kaluuya – Get Out

Daniel Kaluuya may not have given one of 2017's more showy movie performances, but he sure acted his a** off regardless in Jordan Peele's ludicrously entertaining satirical horror masterpiece.

As put-upon protagonist Chris, Kaluuya is a terrifically incredulous everyman shoved into the most absurd and terrifying of scenarios, a man whose anxieties about the white community come home to roost when visiting his girlfriend's parents for the first time.

There's a relaxed brilliance to Kaluuya's performance here: he plays so much of the movie calm and collected, humouring the condescending white liberals with their passive-aggressive behaviour, before exploding with intensity in the film's ferocious finale.

Again, not a performance filled with Oscar reel clips, but a superbly judged turn all the same.
