20 Most Critically Reviled Films Of 2014

No movies p**ed off the critics more than these.

Despite what a particularly vocal and nasty contingent of gamers might tell you, there's no such thing as objectivity when it comes to reviews. Everything €“ from the latest Michael Bay blockbuster to shadows dancing on the walls of a cave €“ are totally subjective. No two people are going to have the exact same opinion about a piece of art, a song, a book, a film. There is, however, a little thing called critical consensus. That's when everyone pretty much does agree on the quality of film. And that's what Rotten Tomatoes is for: the aggregator site pulls together all professional (or not-so-professional) reviews of a movie, then figures out what the average review of that film is. Using that algorithm, we can figure out the critical consensus for pretty much any major film release. You could use Rotten Tomatoes to find what reviewers decided were amongst the best films of the year, based on their positive reviews. Or you could do the exact opposite of that, if you were feeling masochistic. Sometimes, you feel masochistic. Having celebrated the best and brightest it's time now to turn to the worst and darkest: the failed rom coms, the dramas that fell flat on their face. The Adam Sandler movies. These are the twenty most critically reviled films of 2014, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
