20 Greatest Movie Villains Played By British Actors

19. Ernst Stavro Blofeld - Donald Pleasence

I shall look forward personally to exterminating you, Mr. Bond
Film Appearance(s): You Only Live Twice (1967) As far as villains go, Blofeld is up there among the very best (or is it worst...) that we've seen on film. His schemes of world domination have been a thorn in James Bond's side for over 50 years. One man, more than any other, personifies the German-born master criminal; Donald Pleasence. Competing with the likes of Telly Savalas, Charles Gray and Max Von Sydow, the actor from the North of England delivers the definite version. So much so that Mike Meyers showed no compunction in using his image when playing Blofeld parody Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers series. Did You Know?...Ernst Stavros Blofeld was named after a man Ian Fleming was in school with. No word on whether he owned a cat or lived in a hollowed out volcano.

18. Mrs Baylock - Billie Whitelaw

Have no fear little one...I am here to protect thee
Film Appearance(s): The Omen (1976) The Coventry-born Billie Whitelaw plays the chilling, evil guardian of the child antichrist Damien in Richard Donner's classic horror film The Omen. Her role encompasses the terror of an insidious threat from within the home that will scare the pants of you and put you off hiring a nanny for your own children...until you've gone about two months without sleep that is. Whitelaw is perfect as Damien's nanny and is arguably the scariest thing in the whole film. So successful was her portrayal that it virtually created the 'threat from within' character type that inspired future films like The Hand That Rocks The Cradle. Did You Know?...Whitelaw wanted to pull out of filming The Omen because she wanted to act in a play in the West End. She phoned the production office Friday evening but no one answered as it was late. She then had no choice but to turn up for filming on Monday morning.
