20 Most Annoying Movie Characters Since 2000
14. Toad
Portrayed By: Ray Park
Appeared In: X-Men
The "Phase 1" of X-Men films were pretty damn good, before Brett Ratner bulldozed the franchise into the ground. But even Bryan Singer's first entry wasn't without its problems, mainly the villains. The Brotherhood of Mutants were superbly rounded off by Mystique and Sabertooth, but Ray Park's Toad is remembered for all the wrong reasons. Admittedly it was Halle Berry's Storm who uttered in the infamous "do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning," but this cinematic car crash would never have come along without the inclusion of Toad.
Literally slimy beyond belief, Park's Toad was never going to top the favourite list of young children. His powers were lame, his script was paper thin, and Fox tried to reinvent a classic character to be wholly more in your face. To appeal to a younger audience they went and made him a cockney wheeler-dealer with new powers and a smart mouth. We couldn't wait to see him get fried.
