4. The Hunger Games (2012) - Jennifer Lawrences Girl on Fire Dress
Interpreting the style of the futuristic, dystopian world of Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games was always going to be a challenge, but acclaimed costume designer Judianna Makovsky's creations met with widespread praise and approval. From the outrageous outfits owned by the citizens of the Capitol to the dull-coloured garments worn by the inhabitants of poverty-stricken District 12, Makovsky seamlessly evokes a world both similar and apart from our own. The stand-out fashion moment of the film is undoubtedly the iconic girl on fire dress, worn by Jennifer Lawrence as protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The vivid description of the dress in the book led to much discussion about how it could be effectively brought alive on screen. Makovsky rose to the challenge and designed a striking, flame coloured off-the-shoulder gown, which cascades into bejewelled feathers and which memorably bursts into flame. There can be no doubt it made a lasting impression, who wouldn't want a dress like that?
