5 Classic DC Comics Stories That Should Be Adapted As Animated Films

Kingdomcome2 Several years ago, the mini-series Flashpoint rebooted the DC universe and gave us the New 52. Meant to entice new readers and alleviate us of years of continuity, the New 52 made it so that superheroes had only been publicly known for the past five years. As a result, our heroes were now younger, and many of the events that we had seen within the past few decades no longer happened (unless you're Green Lantern, in which case everything had still happened). Depending on who you ask, the New 52 has been either a huge success or a massive failure. I'm somewhere in the middle: the titles I pick up each week are great to read, but I'm also aware that others have been, if not extremely terrible. Overall, I'd say it worked out okay, but has room to get better. With the recent release of Flashpoint's movie adaptation Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, viewers learned that DC will start adapting the New 52 for their animated movies as well. At the end of Flashpoint Paradox, Flash changed the timeline back to what he believed was normal, but the audience noticed subtle changes to both Flash and Batman's costume. We've also learned that the next movie, Justice League: War, will adapt the six-issue Origin arc of the Justice League series, which sees the heroes coming together for the first time. I don't mind DC wanting to put together a loose continuity for their films. Besides Batman and Superman, DC's attempts at live-action films have not been great, and it will take years for them to catch up to Marvel. The animated movies are where DC really gets to shine. My issue is that I think DC is moving too quickly by adapting the New 52 right now. The relaunch is barely two years old, and regardless of whether the stories are good or not, they haven't been around long enough to be considered "classic." So instead, why doesn't DC adapt older stories. Many of their past movies have been re-tellings of stories from the last decade and before, and most of them are really great. Whether it's alternate continuity tales or origin stories, DC has an expansive library of tales that are ripe to be made into animated movies. I've put together a list of five stories that would lend themselves well to the movie format. Since I don't want to ruin plot points for anybody, I will refrain from spoilers. If any of the entries on this list pique your interest, go out and read them. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
