5 Implausible The Avengers 2 Rumours

The Avengers gets a lot of people excited. And because of that, you get buckets of rumours, thrown about all over the internet in message boards and comment forums. Sometimes, rumours get a bit out of hand, no matter how cool they may be, and sometimes, they end up being right on the money. However, I did a little web-searching and decided to try and journalistically shut down the rumours that may have gotten a bit out of hand. You'll find a lot of quotes and hyperlinks in this article, hopefully that will establish some more credibility. Trust me. I'm just as excited for Marvel's Phase 2, 3, 4, and 2625352 as you are. But I don't think we should let some things get out of hand.

5. Tony Stark Will Die in Iron Man 3

Why It's Rumoured: Tony Stark has been flirting with death more than the other Marvel heroes have by a long shot. In his first feature, he was kidnapped by terrorists after shrapnel almost ripped his heart to shreds. Then, later in the film, he has the only thing keeping him alive taken out of his chest. In the final battle, Tony's using a low-powered energy source to fuel his suit, which almost causes death, even after he defeats Obadiah Stane. In the second film, he's chased throughout his own expo by both his best friends and a party of killer-death bots. He's also attacked by Whiplash on a racetrack with no Iron Man suit to save him, and let's not forget that one of the major subplots of Iron Man 2 was that he was dying from blood poisoning caused by the arc reactor. In The Avengers, he takes a joyride into a dimensional portal, facing an alien mothership, while carrying a nuclear bomb. Tony Stark flirts with death the same way Lindsay Lohan flirts with traffic cones and pedestrians. By totally going for it.Why It's Implausible: Let's take away the fact that both Iron Man films, alone, out-gross the combined totals of Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Everyone pretty much knows that Iron Man is Marvel Studios' golden boy. Let's look at what Kevin Feige, the man behind Marvel's cinematic universe, has to say about what he'd like to see in the future, when this tweet was posted: Granted, that tweet was from a few months ago, but it should also be noted that by that time, Shane Black, the writer and director for Iron Man 3, had already completed his script for the feature, with Robert Downey Jr. stating it was one of the best he's ever read. Now, it doesn't make much sense for that script, which would obviously have to go under Feige first, to end with a Tony Stark death, and then have Feige come out a few months later with aspirations of making a Civil War storyline in the future, when Stark and Steve Rogers (Captain America) are the major players in that run. Tony Stark should be safe in Iron Man 3, and you can bet that he'll be back in The Avengers 2. Downey Jr. may not be contracted to do another surplus of six films, but he loves the role and would easily jump at the chance to do another Avengers sequel.

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
